Using digital technologies to expand early literacy learning in classrooms
This session is designed to explore ways that teachers can use technologies to expand early literacy learning opportunities. In this session, I will share how my experiences with creating a music video with my Grade 1/2 students challenged my ideas of how I could use digital technologies within early literacy instruction. I will use this example to explain theoretical concepts of placed resources, multimodality, and multimodal pedagogies in relation to young children’s literacy learning in classrooms. This session will explore some of the potential challenges and benefits of using digital technologies with young children and may be of interest to early childhood educators, teachers, and administrators who are interested in using digital technologies to support early childhood literacy.
